I was hired to evaluate Zendoor's potential entry into the property management SaaS space. They had developed their own in-house software, which they used to manage their own business. My job was to find the best market fit for their property management product. The project lasted three months and included discovery calls, hypothesis development, and prototype development.

 

  • existing competitors were well entrenched 

  • converting customers from competing software providers would require investment in onboarding and customer support

  • aspects of the current software such as banking and business intelligence reporting could be spun off as separate products

Customer
Discovery Call

Interviewed more than 50 potential clients to learn more about their companies. led them through a sequence of questions that had been prearranged. The questions were logged and each call was recorded.

Ideas & Hypothesis

We started identifying common needs among many of the clients we spoke with. We then developed several hypotheses. We began with a list of 12 ideas and narrowed it down to three. We then altered our interview questions in order to validate those ideas with customers.

Multifamily Market Place


Problem: owners pay high fees when they sell a property through a traditional brokerage.

Solution: Allow owners to buy and sell properties through an open marketplace without the need for a traditional brokerage. 

Results

We identified 3 possible product fits that could be created from parts of the existing Zendoor platform

Business Intelligence 


Problem: Property Owners do not have real-time visibility into their properties. Often they have multiple properties being managed by different property management companies, each of which uses different software. 

 

Solution: Use API to pull data from current property managment systems in real-time and present it in a business dashboard, using AI to predict future profits.

Banking as a Service

Problem: Owners utilize conventional banks, which offer relatively limited flexibility.

 

Solution: Provide owners the option to open bank accounts through an API automatically. Generate digital cards for different users and have the option to do so for certain recurring charges.
